Introduction
Balisongs
The beginning of Balisongs were in the Philippines, the balisong (or butterfly knife) was invented as a self defensive and utility knife. The old and main use of the knife was purely for defense and utility, since then the balisongs title have changed. Now a days the balisong is used as an art or amusement, tricks are done with these for entertainment. There are blades out there that are dulled down to just a hunk of metal and their actual term is called "Trainers". These are used so that you can practice without suffering the consequences of being garbage.
The art of balisongs are quite unfamiliar to most people, but it is an amazing amusement for the one performing the tricks and for the people watching. But before one can learn tricks then have to learn the knife parts first. The handle that is on the same side as the "sharp" side of the blade is the bite handle, connected to the bite handle at the bottom is the hatch which helps make sure that the knife stays closed. The opposite handle is called the safe handle because it is impossible to "cut" your fingers on that side of the knife. The top which is the blade is the weight that you will be tossing around. For trainers the blade is normally the counterweight for the tricks and what not. There are a couple of other parts but they aren't useful to know because they aren't apart of any tricks.
